Flame soldering or laser soldering: what’s the difference for your jewellery?

Both techniques are available in our Saint-Eustache workshop. The choice depends on the material being repaired and the elements present on the piece: our craftspeople select the most appropriate method during the assessment.

Flame soldering

Flame soldering is the traditional method for jewellery repair. It is suited to plain gold or silver chains with no heat-sensitive stones. It produces a strong, lasting joint at an accessible price starting at $2.99.

Laser soldering

Laser soldering is used for pieces that cannot withstand direct heat exposure: steel chains, jewellery with stones, eyeglass frames, and fine metals. The precision of the laser targets only the break point. The result is clean, solid, and virtually invisible.

How does your repair work?

All repairs are carried out directly in our workshop at 19 Saint-Eustache Street. Your jewellery never leaves our hands.

You bring your piece to the counter. Our team assesses it immediately and gives you the price before any work begins. If a more thorough evaluation is needed, we keep the piece and call you back with all the details and the exact cost, with no obligation on your part.

You give your approval. No repair is carried out without your confirmation. You know exactly what you are paying before our craftspeople begin.

The repair is completed in our on-site workshop. The turnaround time is communicated at the time of assessment, based on the complexity of the repair.

You pick up your piece in store, reinforced and restored to its original finish.

Why trust Bijouterie Claude Filion with your chain?

Over 60 years of jewellery repair expertise in Saint-Eustache. Since 1965, our workshop has completed over a hundred repairs a month for clients from Saint-Eustache and across the North Shore. That volume of experience means a reliable diagnosis and a lasting result.

Transparent pricing, confirmed before any work begins

The price of your repair is communicated before our craftspeople start. For simple silver solders, the rate starts at $2.99. For more complex cases, we take the piece in for a free estimate and call you back with the full breakdown. No surprises when you pick it up.

An on-site workshop, expert craftspeople

Our workshop is integrated directly into the jewellery store. Your pieces do not pass through an external repair centre. The craftspeople at Bijouterie Claude Filion are the ones who evaluate, repair, and inspect every piece entrusted to them.

Frequently asked questions about chain soldering

How much does chain soldering cost at Bijouterie Claude Filion?

The rate starts at $2.99 for a simple solder. For more complex repairs or those requiring laser technology, the price is determined on-site after your jewellery has been assessed. No evaluation fee is charged.

Do I need an appointment to have my chain repaired?

No appointment is necessary. You can walk in directly from Monday through Sunday during business hours.

Do you repair chains you did not sell?

Yes. We repair chains of any origin, whether purchased from us or elsewhere.

What is the difference between flame soldering and laser soldering?

Flame soldering is the traditional method for gold or silver chains without heat-sensitive stones. Laser soldering is used for materials that cannot withstand direct heat: steel, jewellery with stones, and eyeglass frames. Our craftspeople choose the appropriate technique during the assessment of your piece.

Can a chain broken in several places be repaired?

Yes, in most cases. If your chain has multiple breaks, our team assesses the feasibility and advises you on the best option: a full repair or, if the chain is too damaged, a replacement.
